Sifnos Ranked Second Among the World’s Top Culinary Destinations

Sifnos has earned a prestigious second place on Taste Atlas’s latest global ranking of the 100 best places for sweet delicacies. At the heart of this recognition is the island’s beloved melopita (honey pie)—a light, delicious dessert deeply tied to Sifnian tradition.

According to Taste Atlas, the melopita is “a sweet that reflects the heritage of Sifnos,” and received a high score of 4.6 out of 5, standing out among dozens of local specialties from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Americas.

Highlighting the broader significance of this recognition, Deputy Mayor of Tourism for Sifnos, Yiannis Rafeletos, stated:

“Gastronomy is a vital part of the island’s tradition, history, and development. Our local cuisine reflects the Sifnians’ deep love for their homeland, their craftsmanship in pottery, and their skill in making the most of what nature provides. High-quality food is a key component in how we present the island to international media and tourism stakeholders.”

Sifnos is no stranger to international acclaim. It was recently included in Condé Nast Traveler’s list of the best Greek islands, praised as a top destination for those seeking fulfilling experiences that blend gastronomy, creativity, and timeless charm.

Likewise, National Geographic featured the island in its annual list of 31 incredible Greek islands to visit in 2025, emphasizing its culinary legacy. As the birthplace of Nikolaos Tselementes—the “father of modern Greek cuisine,” born in 1878—Sifnos is celebrated for its authentic recipes like slow-cooked chickpeas and mastelo, a lamb stew traditionally baked in clay pots.

These continued endorsements reinforce Sifnos’ status as a must-visit for travelers who appreciate cultural depth and exceptional food.
