White, translucent jellyfish—commonly known as moon jellyfish—have recently been spotted along several beaches in Heraklion.
Photographs captured by Anna Fragkaki and shared on the “MeteoKrites” page show numerous jellyfish in the waters near Gouves and Kokkini Hani, attracting the attention of swimmers and beachgoers.
Marine biologists are advising the public to stay calm, noting that this species is nearly harmless. While their stings may cause mild irritation, they can be easily treated with standard over-the-counter remedies.
Experts also encourage visitors to seek information from reliable sources, so they can follow appropriate guidance if they encounter these jellyfish in the water.
