The Fourlis Group is counting down to the official opening of the new, large-scale IKEA store in Heraklion. Covering a total area of 10,000 square meters, this will be the largest store of its kind in Crete. It is located along the Old National Road, extending past Karteros, in the Nea Alikarnassos area.
The grand opening is set for Wednesday, April 2nd, aligning with IKEA’s international tradition of launching stores midweek. Around two weeks prior, in mid-March, the smaller IKEA Order and Collection Point in Heraklion will cease operating as a retail space. However, it will continue to process existing orders until the new megastore officially opens. The new location will also feature a full-service restaurant.
As previously announced by the Fourlis Group, the commercial park connected to the new IKEA is expected to be completed by June, adding more retail stores to the same area.
Traffic Adjustments Underway
In preparation for the store’s opening, roadworks are already in progress along the Old National Road. These extend from the “Praktiker” junction, which leads to the Police Directorate, to the intersection near the Municipality of Heraklion’s Sanitation Services facilities.
A section of the Old National Road is being narrowed to create a safe pedestrian walkway leading to the entrance of the new commercial park. To facilitate this, plastic bollards have been installed south of the road’s previous central line. Additionally, there is an ongoing request for the construction of a roundabout at the eastern intersection near the development.
With the countdown underway, Heraklion is preparing to welcome this major retail addition, which is set to transform the local shopping experience.
